The colour is vivid ruby with sparkles of garnet. On the nose, the aromas are subtle and fruit forward, with bright cherry, red currant notes. The palate is more of the same with ripe red cherry, hints of cassis and red currant. The wine has an elegant mouth feel with well integrated soft tannins and a balanced finish.
About the Veritas Winery Cabernet Franc
The Cabernet Franc grapes are hand harvested and hand sorted in the vineyard to remove any fruit that may tarnish the true quality of the vintage. The 2009 vintage was noted for a moist spring with moderate temperatures creating increased vigour from the previous vintage. The summer dried out which provided perfect conditions for full but slow ripening producing higher sugar levels and a higher alcohol level. This also helped maximise the concentration of the fruit flavours and hinders the “green” flavours that can be found with Cabernet Franc. Beautifully balanced and elegant.
In its youth, Cabernet Franc 2009 will show a fruit forward style 1-3 years after the vintage, but will show more complexity and character with 3-5 years of bottle ageing letting the Virginia “terrior” balance with the fruit core.
